  • Venture Handmade is a small business that designs and builds bikepacking gear for touring, racing, commuting, and day ride use. I’ve been building this sort of thing since 2010 under various brand names - JONA (2010-2012), Bedrock Bags (2012-2025), Freewheel Mission Gear (2025), and now Venture Handmade - making us one of the longest continuously-running bikepacking gear makers in the world.   • In 2025, longtime co-owner Joey Ernst (that’s me) became sole owner of Bedrock Bags rather than let the business go under. Venture Handmade is carrying on the Bedrock legacy while bringing fresh energy to the products and the business.

  • As part of the 2025 transition to sole ownership, in a triage situation, we temporarily moved the business from Colorado to the hills of Kentuckiana. Effective spring 2026 we’ll be back in Durango!
